Conversion of Zion -1-

This is the first of possibly several postings that address a conscioned Jew, and his trouble with Christianity,, as he debates with himself over converting. He acknowledges the importance of Christendom to the rise of Western culture. That is partly what attracts him. What often troubles him is the existing church.

Today he relates a story about the time he had to stop for gas at an out of the way filling station up in the mountains at night. It was the kind of place you were not sure the pump worked because it was so rusty or how much the gas was. After filing up and paying he was returning to his car, and this guy got off his motorcycle and rapidly walked toward him and his wife, and he asked for a ride to the next exit going west. He related that upon hearing the request he and his wife separated to make it harder for the hitch hiker to attack, and then responded by lying and saying he was going the other way. Sorry.

But it bothered him a little. He thought I could have been like a Christian, and offered him a ride and given him some hummus or something. Then he laughed and said, “but wouldn’t that be stupid?” I mean the way he came up on us like that, and the way he was dressed. You hear stories of “nice” people who gave guys like this a ride. No sir, not me. Christians are taught to be nice to everyone no matter what they are like, and they get stabbed. Stupid.
